Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch reports that on May 28, 2014 at approximately 1:31 PM the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a fire in Pike Bay Township approximately 1 mile south-west of Cass Lake. Officers responded and located a large fast moving wildfire in a pine forest with a significant amount of blow down material. Ten residences were evacuated along the Nary Road (156th St NW) in Cass County.

BEMIDJI -- Area fire crews are battling a brush fire south of Cass Lake. The fire was reported at about 1:30 p.m., witnesses told the Pioneer, and officials are using aerial and ground efforts to combat the fire. The staging area for firefighters is at the Pike Bay Town Hall, officials said.
A 2-year-old boy fell from a third-story apartment window at a UND apartment complex Tuesday, according to University Police. Chief Eric Plummer said officers arrived on the scene at Carleton Court to find the boy inside with his family after falling from their apartment window with a screen in place.
