SLAYTON, Minn. — Residents in southwestern Minnesota are stacking sandbags and bracing for more rain after torrential downpours washed out roads and flooded basements. On Tuesday, Lyon, Redwood and Murray counties were dealing with headaches after an estimated 8 to 10 inches of rain fell overnight in some places.
ST. PAUL -- The Fourth of July is statistically one of the worst holidays of the year for drunk driving in Minnesota, figures for the past five years show. Law enforcement has made an average of 3.9 arrests per hour for driving while intoxicated, 2013-2017 statistics from the Minnesota Department Public Safety show. Labor Day and St. Patrick’s Day follow at 3.8 per hour.
MAPLETON, N.D. – Authorities have identified 13 people involved in a serious crash involving a van full of girls basketball players and another car Thursday night, June 28, south of Mapleton. The crash happened at 8:41 p.m. on Cass County Road 15 and 42nd Street SE, approximately four miles west of West Fargo, according to a news release.
REMER, Minn.—The Cass County Sheriff's Office recovered the body of a 76-year-old man Monday, June 18, on Upper Menton Lake near Remer in north-central Minnesota. The sheriff's office received a report of a possible drowning at 6:27 p.m. When deputies and responders arrived they were able to recover the body of the man. Deputies learned the man was swimming when he went under the water for an extended period of time.

ST. PAUL -- An increase in cyclospora infections, spread through consumption of imported fresh produce, has affected at least three dozen Minnesotans and has prompted the Minnesota Department of Health to further its investigation. One outbreak has been identified among people who ate at Sonora Grill in Minneapolis in mid-May, the health department said. To date, 17 customers have reported illness. The restaurant is fully cooperating with the investigation, and investigators say they do not have any indication that there is an ongoing risk to patrons.
A 31-year-old Coon Rapids, Minn., man died after a canoe capsized in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area wilderness Saturday night, June 9, in Minnesota’s Arrowhead region. The body of Joseph Bennett Fedick was recovered from the water at 3:34 p.m. Monday about 200 yards away from the Perent Lake campsite where he had been staying, according to a report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Police are searching for the suspect after a 24-year-old man was shot early Sunday morning, June 10, inside a Bemidji apartment building. Police Chief Mike Mastin said Monday afternoon that the man was shot once in the leg and remains hospitalized at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center. Multiple shots were fired, Mastin said. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. Police have not yet identified a person of interest, Mastin said.
BRAINERD, Minn. -- A 21-year-old Brainerd woman was killed early Thursday morning, May 31, following a head-on crash in foggy conditions. The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office was called to the crash at 4:31 a.m. involving three vehicles southeast of Brainerd on Crow Wing County Highway 2. The vehicle with the fatality caught on fire.
