A semi-tanker rolled Wednesday at the intersection of U.S. Highways 71 and 2 just south of Bemidji, spilling gallons of aviation de-icing liquid and causing a interchange ramp to close. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 1988 Mack semi was pulling a tanker of aviation de-icing liquid northbound on U.S. Highway 71 at about 11:20 a.m. The truck was turning left onto the westbound U.S. Highway 2 ramp when it rolled.
BRAINERD, Minn. -- A SkyWest Airlines flight from Brainerd to Minneapolis Friday morning was given priority landing after smoke was detected in the cabin about eight minutes into the 7:47 a.m. flight. A smoke detector sounded and smoke started flowing into the cabin of the CRJ-200 jet, said Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport Commission Chair Andy Larson, who was on Delta flight 7423. Delta flights from Brainerd are operated by SkyWest. "I knew something was wrong when I could feel the plane accelerate," Larson said.
A 62-year-old Aitkin man died Wednesday night after being pulled from the water on Gun Lake in central Aitkin County. He had been operating his all-terrain vehicle on the lake when it broke through the ice that was only about 1-inch thick in that location.
