Investigators have made an arrest in connection to the death of a Naytahwaush, Minn., man in an apparent hit and run Sunday, according to Clearwater County Sheriff's Office. Elmer William Thompson, 43, was arrested without a struggle at about 3:30 p.m.
More than 150 people gathered in this small town Monday for a tearful vigil for the seriously injured driver of a public school bus that was involved in a crash with four semis in thick fog Friday. The 34 fourth-graders in the bus escaped safely, but it took almost an hour for first responders to pull the driver, Cathryn Jostad, from the wreckage.
It was dark as Ann Lilleoien drove home Tuesday night from Devils Lake when she thought she saw a deer in the ditch. "I was going 65, but I slowed to 55," she said. "When I got closer, I could see it was a cougar." As she drove along Ramsey County Road 8 about four miles west of Lawton, the animal bounded from the ditch onto the road. "It was running right next to my pickup, and it was going faster than me," she said.
Jason Duane Lampl, 24, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony second-degree burglary. According to court records, in June of 2014 he burglarized a cabin on South Dinner Lake Loop, Park Rapids. The well pump and tank were removed from inside the cabin, and he also took 10 sheets of drywall, a quantity of lumber, and some tools and household items. He was charged after DNA on a cigarette butt left at the site was traced to him via a state database.

Cass County Sheriff's corporal who pulled over a woman for speeding was dragged for 25 feet as the woman drunkenly tried to drive away, charges filed Friday in Cass County District Court said. Nicolle Jean Koehler, 32, was charged with felony reckless endangerment and four misdemeanors: fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer, preventing arrest or discharge of other duties, DUI, and refusing to submit to chemical testing. Koehler was speeding in Mapleton when Cpl. Keenan Zundel pulled her over, according to Zundel's report of the incident.
A North Dakota man who allegedly kept his brother's body in his camper trailer for more than five months has been charged with his murder.
