The following cases were heard Aug. 29 by Beltrami District Judge Paul T. Benshoof: Kelly William Burgoon, 48, of Becida was sentenced for second-degree DWI to one year in the Beltrami County Jail of which 335 days are stayed for four years. Burgoon must serve 30 days and may do so on sentence to serve. He has been credited with three days time served.
The head football coach at the University of Minnesota Duluth says some players have been suspended after police cited them for underage drinking. Coach Curt Wiese says some players have also lost scholarships and two have been stripped of their roles as team captains. WDIO-TV reports Wiese says the weekend underage drinking party was hosted by football players. Names and individual consequences were not released. Duluth police say officers responded to a house party late Sunday night where about 75 people had gathered.
Students at the University of Minnesota-Crookston have been making the trek to the Lincoln Park Golf Course in Grand Forks all summer, but there haven’t been any sports involved. An Osage man and a New York Mills man were both injured when one Chevy Silverado rear-ended another on Highway 10 Friday afternoon near Perham. Paul E. Myllykangas, 29, of Osage and Olaf C. Hetland, 21, of New York Mills both suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Both men were eastbound on Highway 10.
Two Fargo residents suffered serious injuries after their vehicle hit a deer, spun out, and was hit broadside by another vehicle on I-94 in Douglas County Saturday evening.
