A mentally ill man who was allegedly beaten by fellow inmates in Beltrami County jail and then furloughed so the county wouldn't have to pay medical expenses filed a civil rights lawsuit Monday. Theran Stai, 46, filed claims at the U.S. District Court in Minneapolis against both Beltrami County as a whole and individual county staff, including jail administrators and Sheriff Phil Hodapp.

A 28-year-old St. Paul man was located just after 11 a.m. Friday after spending the night in the woods, the Aitkin County Sheriff's office reported. Yang Vang had been hunting with a friend on the Aitkin/Pine County line when he became lost in the woods. The sheriff's office was alerted to the missing hunter at 9:45 p.m.
