The American Meteor Society has received five reports from Bemidji area residents who reported seeing a rare afternoon fireball in the Sunday sky.
The metro area’s largest manufacturing plant announced a round of layoffs today. CNH Industrial, a maker of agricultural and construction equipment, has announced layoffs of 40 full-time hourly employees at its Fargo manufacturing plant.
By Katherine Lymn / Dickinson Press Bakken Oil Express, the rail terminal just southwest of Dickinson, recently shipped its 1,000th train unit mark, the company announced Monday. That means roughly 70 million barrels of crude oil have moved from the terminal in its 3 years of operations. The facility is capable of loading up to three unit trains a day, and can store 642,000 barrels of oil. A new storage tank set to be online in mid-2015 will increase its storage capacity to 892,000 barrels.

By Sarah Volpenheim Two former Northdale Oil employees accused of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from the East Grand Forks Tesoro gas station pleaded guilty Monday to felony theft charges, according to court documents. Charges were leveled in state district court in Crookston, Minn., against Craig and Tanya Scheer, 50 and 45, respectively, after an audit revealed the Scheers had embezzled nearly $200,000 from the gas station over a period of several years, according to court records. “It’s an unfortunate situation that’s caused a lot of pain,” Scott
WE Fest, one of the biggest country music festivals in the country, has been sold to Townsquare Media, a Connecticut-based media company. The festival started in 1983 by Jeff Krueger, with Rand Levy and Chyrll Sparks coming on board in 1985. In 2010, Levy became the sole owner of the festival. North Dakota’s deer season opens at noon Friday, and Minnesota’s version of the fall tradition begins Saturday morning.
A Detroit Lakes teenager was injured after broadsiding another vehicle Saturday night. According to a report from the Minnesota State Patrol, A 2005 Ford Expedition was crossing of Highway 34 on County Road 29 around 11:25 p.m. The vehicle pulled in front of a westbound, 2000 Pontiac Bonneville being driven by Sadie Herman, who was struck on the passenger side. Herman received non-life-threatening injuries.
Fire has destroyed a popular Detroit Lakes bar. A call came in around 2 p.m. Sunday reporting a fire at the County 17 Bar & Grill, just off of Highway 59 and County Road 17, near Lake Melissa.
