FARGO – A teenager who was found Feb. 18 unconscious in the Fargo South High School swimming pool has died. Frederic Ndereimana, 19, died Saturday at a Fargo hospital, according to police. Until now, the teen’s name and condition were unknown. Fargo Schools did not previously release the info, and police said the matter was under investigation. School district spokesperson AnnMarie Campbell said that Nderimana was found unconscious in the school pool at about 11 a.m. Feb.

A Waubun woman has been arrested on three counts of child abuse to a 16-month-old child. On Feb. 11 at about 10:22 p.m., the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office was called to a Waubun residence, requesting an ambulance for a toddler in medical distress, according to a press release from Mahnomen County Sheriff Doug Krier. EMS responded to the call and the child was taken to Mahonmen Health Center and later transferred to Sanford Health in Fargo.
SEBEKA, Minn. -- Recently cited for driving while intoxicated, Sebeka’s police chief has decided to retire. Eric Swenson, 48, has been a police officer for nearly 30 years and the Sebeka chief since 2007. Council members will address his retirement notice during a special meeting at 6 p.m. Monday in the council chambers. They’ll also discuss the future of the city’s police department. MINNEAPOLIS – Amy Senser is getting sprung early. The woman sentenced to 41 months for the 2011 hit-and-run death of Thai chef Anousone “Bic” Phanthavong had been scheduled to be let out on supervised release Oct. 20, but she has shaved six months off that and is now scheduled for release April 24. Sarah Latuseck, a spokeswoman for the Minnesota Department of Corrections, said Senser had applied for work release and was approved. “Assuming she complies with the program rules and expectations, she will complete on 10/20/14 (her supervised release date),” Latuseck said in an email.
