OLIVIA, Minn. -- One person was killed in a head-on crash at 10:35 a.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 71 in Renville County in central Minnesota, the Minnesota State Patrol reported. The identity of the victim and others involved in the accident will be released Saturday morning.

DULUTH, Minn.—Last week's storm caused $18.4 million in damage along Lake Superior, according to Duluth city officials. Now the city is seeking emergency aid from both the Minnesota Homeland Security Emergency Management department and Federal Emergency Management Agency. Wind gusts of 50 mph swept across the northeast Minnesota on Oct. 10 as the strong fall storm brought large waves and flooding along Lake Superior's shore, battering the Lakewalk trail system in Duluth.

PAUL -- The Minnesota attorney general filed a lawsuit on Tuesday, Oct. 16, against three major U.S. manufacturers of insulin, allegeding them of deceptively raising the list prices of insulin and making it less affordable to patients in high deductible health plans, the uninsured and senior citizens on Medicare. “Insulin is a life-or-death drug for people with diabetes. Many people can’t afford the price hikes but can’t afford to stop taking the medication either,” Attorney General Lori Swanson said in a statement.

RURAL PONSFORD, Minn. — A 15-year-old boy with special needs was flown to a Twin Cities area hospital to be treated for hypothermia after he went missing for several hours Monday, Oct. 15, according to the Becker County Sheriff's Office. About 12:36 a.m. Monday, the sheriff's office received a report that the boy had left his home in rural Ponsford. The temperature was 28 degrees and the wind chill was 18 at midnight in Park Rapids, a town about 20 miles from Ponsford, according to the National Weather Service.

October rains had stalled many farmers trying to get their crops off the field, and this week's early snowstorm has pushed the finish line back even further. Still, sugar beet and soybean farmer Scott Johnson is optimistic about the harvest. "We're just hoping for some sunshine and warm weather," said Johnson, who has crops near Manvel, N.D., just north of Grand Forks. Snow blanketed much of North Dakota on Wednesday.
ST. PAUL -- Zebra mussels have been confirmed in Walker Lake near Ottertail, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said Thursday, Oct. 11. The lake is connected to Otter Tail Lake, which also was confirmed to contain zebra mussels in 2016. The DNR said a lake property owner contacted them after finding five adult zebra mussels on an irrigation intake while removing it for the season. DNR invasive species staff found more zebra mussels on other equipment in the same area of the lake and where Walker Lake outlets into Otter Tail Lake.
BEMIDJI, Minn. — A 26-year-old Oakdale man was killed Wednesday in a two-vehicle collision on U.S. 71 south of Bemidji in Guthrie Township.
