Century students who sold 25 items or more for the PTA fundraiser were treated to a limo ride about town, with stops at McDonald's for some ice cream and a "Chinese fire drill" at Depot Courts.  Sixty children  earned the  ticket for the tour, 43 in elementary and 17  in middle school. Kids on the playground  were impressed with the "bus," waving and running as their comtemporaries departed. A tree took root in the Century kindergartners' "arboretum" as did an understanding of the evergreens' role in the environment when Teresa Ohm of Flying W Gardens and Bert Swanson, president of the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association, arrived on campus Thursday. Century was one of 70 schools throughout the state to take part in the first Green for Life Day, as proclaimed by Gov. Tim Pawlenty. As if on cue, the sun made a grand appearance Friday afternoon to warm the Century field day competitions. First through fourth graders competed in the spring tradition.
