Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon football coach Daniel Fatland caught this beautiful northern pike on Mantrap Lake on July 13.  AIS inspectors have been at the Mantrap public access trying to deter the introduction of invasive species into the lake and numerous others regionally for a couple years.

MONTE DRAPER | BEMIDJI PIONEER Pat Rooney, owner of Denny's Resort on Lake Winnibigoshish, stands beside his private harbor holding non-native Chinese and banded mystery snails. The snails, long established in the lake, do not seem to do any harm but zebra mussels -- larvae of which were discovered this winter in Lake Winnie -- are more concerning. Rooney points out that where the snails take up residence -- dozens cover each of his dock posts -- are the prime locations for zebra mussel infestations.
