Tinnes, relay unit advance to state
Logan Tinnes and the 4 x 100-meter relay team will represent Nevis at the state Class A boys track and field meet.
Tinnes qualified for state by placing second in the 110-meter hurdles with a qualifying time of 15.37 and joined Kyle Schmidt, Jack DeWulf and Zach Henry on the 400 relay that finished second in 46.08 at Saturday's Section 8A meet at Bagley.
Ada-Borup/Norman County West's Luke Heitman won the section title in the 110 hurdles in 15.21 while Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton's Ethan Edeen also advanced to state by placing third with a qualifying time of 15.38. Pelican Rapids won the section title in the 4 x 100 relay in 45.83 while the Tigers edged out D-G-F's time of 46.09 to claim the other state spot.
Tinnes, DeWulf and Henry joined Tom Wormley in the 4 x 200 relay that finished fourth in 1:37.24 while Henry placed fifth in the 100 in 11.58 as Nevis scored 25 points to place 11th in the team standings.
Andrea Dudley just missed qualifying for state by placing third in the triple jump with a distance of 34 feet, 4.75 inches to lead the Nevis girls. West Marshall's Abigail McGlynn took first in 35-9.50 and Frazee's Paige Ziegler followed in 35-1.50.
Dudley also finished eighth in the 300 hurdles in 50.54 and joined Natalee Hockett, Anna Hennagir and Cielo Mooney on the 4 x 200 relay team that finished sixth in 1:54.72 as the Tigers scored 10 points to place 18th in the girls standings.
The Tigers also had Jack McNamee in the 1,600 and Michael Gunn in the 3,200 compete for the boys while Dudley in the 100 hurdles, Cole Mastley in the shot put and Ivy Huckbody in the discus also qualified for the section meet for the girls.
