Frazee eliminates Nevis from playoffs

     Nevis’ quest to advance to the Section 6A baseball championship game fell short with a 5-4 loss to Frazee last Tuesday at Fergus Falls.

     The Tigers stayed alive in this double-elimination tournament with a 3-2 win over Brandon/Evansville in last Tuesday’s first elimination game at Fergus Falls.

     Austin Becker went 2 for 3 with a run and RBI, Victor Mastley went 1 for 2 and scored two runs, Gavin Becker went 1 for 3 with an RBI, Ed Nedvicky went 1 for 2 and Gavin Hitchcock drove in a run for Nevis, which took a 3-0 lead by scoring once in the first and twice in the second. Austin Becker earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out eight over seven innings. B/E, the No. 2 seed in the south, ended the season with an 11-9 record.

     Frazee advanced to the section title game by jumping out to a 4-0 lead after the second inning. Andrew Dudley went 3 for 4 with a run and Gavin Becker went 3 for 4 with two RBI to pace the Tigers’ 11-hit attack. Nedvicky, Spencer Stack, Brett Byer, Courtland Chase and Mastley all contributed a hit with Nedvicky and Chase driving in runs and Stack, Austin Becker and Adam Thompson each scoring a run. Gavin Becker took the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings. Austin Becker gave up one hit over the final 1 2/3 innings. Nevis, the No. 3 seed in the north, ended the season with a 19-7 record.

     Frazee, the No. 2 seed in the north, lost to New York Mills, the No. 1 seed in the north, 4-1 in the championship game. Frazee ended the season at 16-11 while New York Mills will carry a 23-0 record to state.
