Panthers have solid first day at section swim meet

Park Rapids qualified 19 individuals and relay teams to the finals during the preliminaries of the Section 8A girls swimming and diving meet at Warroad on Nov. 9.

The Panthers qualified the 200-yard medley relay team and 200-yard freestyle relay team to the finals after both posted top-eight finishes. The 200 medley relay team of Analise Smee, Jess Kaseman, Mary Rose Nichols and Savana Damar placed seventh while the 200 freestyle relay team of Ellie Ulvin, Aleah Voigt, Olivia Ulvin and Emma Vrieze finished fifth.

Also advancing to the finals were Olivia Ulvin in the 200 freestyle (eighth), Aleah Voigt (sixth) and Smee (eighth) in the 200 individual medley, Ellile Ulvin (second) and Vrieze (seventh) in the 50 freestyle, Katie Eischens in diving (seventh), Smee in the 100 butterfly (seventh), Ellie Ulvin in the 100 freestyle (fourth) and Olivia Ulvin in the 500 freestyle (eighth).

Qualifying for the consolation finals were Chloe Voigt in the 200 freestyle (ninth), Damar in the 100 butterfly (ninth), Vrieze in the 100 freestyle (15th), Chloe Voigt (11th) and Massie Lee (14th) in the 500 freestyle, Aleah Voigt (10th) and Maria Wagner (16th) in the 100 backstroke, and Nichols in the 100 breaststroke (11th).

The finals will be held Nov. 10 with the winner and runner-up in each event qualifying for the state Class A meet.
