Panthers enter 8AA playoffs with a win

Levi Erickson threw a five-hitter and the Park Rapids baseball team matched its season high with 15 hits in closing the regular season with a 12-3 victory over Bagley last Thursday.

After Erickson gave up three runs in the top of the first, the Panthers tied the game in the bottom of the inning on singles by Sam Coborn and Erickson, walks to Dan Pike and Ryan Peterson, and a two-run single by Chris Goplerud.

Two errors, an RBI triple by Nick Belfiori and an RBI single by Coborn gave the Panthers a 6-3 lead in the third.

A five-run fourth inning put the Panthers in control. A single by Christian Ridlon, an RBI single by Chris Goplerud, a run-scoring triple by Belfiori, an RBI single by Kyle Goplerud, and an RBI single by Coborn pushed the lead to 11-3.

Belfiori singled and scored the Panthers' final run in the sixth.

Coborn went 3 for 4, Belfiori went 2 for 4, Erickson went 2 for 4, Ridlon went 2 for 4, Chris Goplerud went 2 for 4 and Kyle Goplerud went 2 for 4 as the Panthers reached a season high for runs scored in a game. Erickson went the distance for the win.

Prowlers oust Panthers

A six-run fifth inning sparked Thief River Falls to an 8-1 victory over the Panthers in the first round of the Section 8AA playoffs Wednesday at Thief River Falls.

The Prowlers, the No. 8 seed in the north, scored unearned runs in the third and fourth innings before three hits, three walks and two errors pushed the lead to 8-0 in the fifth.

The Panthers, who were seeded No. 9, scored their lone run in the sixth when Christian Ridlon scored on a single by Kyle Goplerud. Park Rapids left runners on second and third in the first, third and sixth innings.
