Renner shares Mid-State Conference tennis title at No. 1 singles

Alex Renner tied for first place at No. 1 singles to lead the Park Rapids boys tennis team at Thursday's Mid-State Conference tournament at the Depot Courts and Century School courts.

Renner, the No. 2 seed, defeated Perham's Jordan Cresap, lost to Staples-Motley's Tom Zoellner and defeated Detroit Lakes' Jesse Meyer to share first place in this round-robin format.

Scott Smith and Mitch Fossen finished third at No. 1 doubles while Matt Sullivan took fourth at No. 4 singles.

Chris Shaw (at No. 2 singles), Jeff Dickinson (at No. 3 singles), Calvin Bateman and Steven Osterman (at No. 2 doubles), and Iain Wallace, Jaden Olson and Zack Tretbar (at No. 3 doubles) all took fifth.

The Panthers compiled 13 points to finish in fifth place. Staples-Motley won the conference title with 31 points while Detroit Lakes was second with 29 points.

Team scores: Staples-Motley 31, Detroit Lakes 29, Perham 17, Wadena-Deer Creek 15, Park Rapids 13.
