Williams' goal gives Panthers win in OT

Hannah Williams' goal 2:17 into overtime gave the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team a 5-4 win at Detroit Lakes Tuesday night.

Goals by Hayley Maloney and Brianna Seebold gave Detroit Lakes a 2-0 lead before Jessica Gapinski's power-play goal and McKenna Brand's goal tied the game after two periods. Heather Brostrom and Mady Vaudrin assisted on Gapinski's goal at the 5:32 mark while Vaudrin set up Brand at the 14:14 mark.

Brand scored 30 seconds into the third period to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead before the Lakers tied the game on Seebold's power-play goal. Brand tallied her ninth hat trick of the season to give the Panthers a 4-3 lead at the 11:32 mark. Brostrom and Gapinski assisted on that goal. Callie Johnson's goal at the 11:56 mark tied the game and forced overtime.

The Panthers, who finished with a 42-29 advantage in shots, prevailed in overtime for the second time this season to improve to 10-12 on the year. Park Rapids defeated Detroit Lakes 5-1 earlier in the season.

Goalie Shania Johnson finished with 25 saves for the Panthers. The loss dropped the Lakers to 6-17 on the season.
