Jensen's fourth hat trick of season carries Green Wave past Panthers

Leah Jensen's hat trick led East Grand Forks to a 6-3 victory over the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team Saturday afternoon in a battle of Section 8A rivals at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.

Jensen scored twice in the first period as the Green Wave jumped out to a 3-1 lead. Jessica Gapinski set up Heather Brostrom at the 4:48 mark to account for the Panthers' first-period goal. East Grand Forks held a 15-1 edge in shots on goal in the opening period.

Chelsey Grassel scored to give EGF a 4-1 lead before Bailee Jerger scored a power-play goal off a rebound on a shot by Hannah Williams at the 10:07 mark to keep the Panthers within two goals entering the final period.

Jensen completed her hat trick and Grassel scored her second goal of the game as the Green Wave led 6-2. Brostrom concluded the scoring on assists by McKenna Brand and Gapinski at the 13:53 mark.

Jensen posted her fourth hat trick of the season while goalie Madi Galstad made 19 saves as EGF improved to 3-1-1. EGF is ranked No. 7 in this week's state Class A poll.

Park Rapids goalie Bailey Moore finished with 31 saves as the Panthers fell to 1-6.

Park Rapids' game at Detroit Lakes last Tuesday night was postponed because of the weather and rescheduled for Feb. 1.
