Pine River-Backus relied on 13 ace serves and 28 kills for a 25-13, 25-13, 25-18 win over the Park Rapids volleyball team Tuesday night at the Area High School gym.

In Set 1, a kill by Olivia Vaadeland and winning spikes by Vaadeland and Ashley Domino helped Park Rapids battle to a 5-5 tie. Katie Wangberg then served seven straight points to give PR-B a 15-7 advantage. Three kills by Vaadeland kept the Panthers within 16-12 before Kendra Hamilton served seven straight points to give the Tigers the early lead.

Two kills and a block by Vaadeland gave the Panthers a 3-3 tie in Set 2. A kill by Vaadeland, an ace serve by Marissa Rittgers, and a kill and tip by Domino kept Park Rapids within 12-8 before the Tigers claimed a 19-8 cushion. Justine Rittgers had a kill for the Panthers before PR-B closed out the set.

Hamilton opened Set 3 with five service points and Ashley Kline followed with four service points to give PR-B a quick 13-3 advantage. Vaadeland had a pair of blocks during that stretch. The Panthers rallied behind a kill by Mady Vaudrin, a tip by Justine Rittgers, a spike by Marissa Rittgers and two kills by Vaadeland. Marissa Rittgers served an ace during a six-point run as the Panthers pulled to within 20-16. Domino contributed a kill and block during that stretch. PR-B regrouped to close out the match.

Hamilton (6), Wangberg (5) and Crysta Christensen (5) combined for 16 kills to lead the Tigers, who defeated Park Rapids 25-19, 17-25, 15-4 at the Pequot Lakes tournament earlier this season.

The Panthers fell to 4-15 with their seventh loss in a row.
