Panthers edge W-DC in Mid-State dual

Chris Shaw helped the Park Rapids boys tennis team defeat Wadena-Deer Creek 4-3 Thursday with a win at No. 3 doubles.

A sweep in doubles carried the Park Rapids boys tennis team to a 4-3 Mid-State Conference win at Wadena-Deer Creek Thursday.

The Panthers lost only two games in the three doubles matches and used a straight-set win by Alex Renner at No. 1 singles to pick up their first win of the season in the conference opener.

Max Brown and Scott Smith coasted to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Kyle Dickinson and James Kujawa rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Mitch Fossen and Chris Shaw didn't lose a game en route to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Renner posted a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles to seal the win as Park Rapids improved to 1-3 in dual meets this season.

W-DC fell to 0-3 in the conference and overall.

No. 2 singles: Taylor Garcia, W-DC, over Armando Padilla 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

No. 3 singles: Austin Korkowski, W-DC, over Jonah Pearson 6-0, 6-1.

No. 4 singles: Cory Pettow, W-DC, over Bob Swanstrom 6-0, 6-1.

No. 1 doubles: Max Brown/Scott Smith, PR, over Drew Larson/Joey Pate 6-0, 6-1.

No. 2 doubles: Kyle Dickinson/James Kujawa, PR, over Zack Norenberg/Kevin Jensen 6-1, 6-0.

No. 3 doubles: Mitch Fossen/Chris Shaw, PR, over Matt Green/Elian Anderson 6-0, 6-0.
