Thief River Falls advances with overtime win over Panthers

Megan Bergland's overtime goal ended the season for the Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team Thursday night at Thief River Falls.

Bergland scored 20 seconds into overtime to give Thief River Falls a 2-1 victory in a Section 8A quarterfinal game.

Park Rapids, the No. 5 seed, took a 1-0 lead when Hannah Williams and McKenna Brand assisted on a goal by Heather Brostrom at the 1:40 mark of the first period.

After a scoreless second period, Emily Bergland's goal 2:35 into the third period tied the game.

Megan Bergland then scored the game-winner in overtime to give the No. 4-seeded Prowlers their fourth win over Park Rapids this season.

Thief River Falls, which held a 39-21 edge in shots on goal, improved to 11-13-1 while the Panthers ended the season at 9-15-2.
