Alyssa Carlson's 3-pointer with 14 seconds to play in the second overtime lifted the Park Rapids girls basketball team to a 74-70 victory over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Thursday night at the Area High School gym.

The win snapped a 16-game losing streak for the Panthers in a game that saw eight ties and 19 lead changes.

"The girls could have given up, but they haven't. They've been coming to practice and they've been working hard," said Park Rapids head coach John Schumacher, whose team improved to 2-16 on the season. "They deserve this win for all the hard work they've done in every practice and in every game."

Park Rapids jumped out to an early lead as a basket off a rebound by Hailey Lundin, jumpers by Carson Lee Christenson and Hannah Wolff, and a layup by Christenson produced a 10-5 advantage with 11:21 to play in the first half.

Two inside baskets by Ashley Domino and a jumper and 3-pointer by Wolff kept the Panthers in front 19-14 with 7:08 remaining.

Back-to-back 3-pointers by Ashley Harrison gave W-H-A a 22-19 lead at the 5:59 mark before the Panthers responded with an 11-2 run to reclaim the lead. Two inside baskets by Anna Grimes, jumpers by Christenson and Sophie Shogren, and a 3-pointer by Carlson gave Park Rapids a 30-24 lead with 2:04 to play in the first half.

The Wolves ended the half with an 8-1 run to carry a 32-31 lead into the break.

A layup by Lundin and a jumper by Domino gave the Panthers a 35-32 lead at the start of the second half before two more 3-pointers by Harrison gave the Wolves a 44-40 edge with 11:44 to play.

Both teams traded baskets the rest of the way.

Two baskets by Wolff tied the game at 45-45 with 8:58 remaining and a 3-pointer by Wolff knotted the game at 48-48 with 6:32 left.

A pair of free throws by Olivia Vaadeland gave the Panthers a 53-52 lead at the 4:16 mark. After a jumper by Christenson gave Park Rapids a 55-54 lead with 3:44 left, a basket off a rebound by Wolff with 1:20 left tied the game at 58-58.

Neither team scored during the remainder of regulation play.

In the first overtime, W-H-A jumped out to a 61-58 lead before jumpers by Carlson and Christenson and a free throw by Lundin gave the Panthers a 63-61 lead with 30 seconds remaining. Mackenzie Piprude hit two free throws with 19 seconds left to force a second overtime.

Christenson gave the Panthers a 68-65 lead midway through the second four-minute extra session by hitting a free throw, making a jumper and feeding Vaadeland for a layup off a steal.

Two free throws by Wolff gave Park Rapids a 70-68 lead with 49 seconds left before Ciera Clyde's jumper tied the game at 70-70 with 35 seconds remaining.

After a timeout, Carlson hit her game-winning 3-pointer before Wolff made a free throw with :05 remaining to seal the win.

Wolff led the Panthers with 24 points and 12 rebounds while Christenson added 13 points. Domino (9), Carlson (8), Vaadeland (7) and Lundin (6) combined for another 30 points. Lundin and Domino grabbed nine rebounds each while Vaadeland had seven rebounds. Carlson dished out three assists.

Harrison scored 17 points for the Wolves, who fell to 13-9.
