Brand lifts Panthers past LOW

McKenna Brand's hat trick and two assists led the Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team to a 6-1 win over Lake of the Woods Tuesday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.

Allie Bade tallied three assists and Jessica Gapinski had a goal and two assists as the Panthers won their third game in a row.

Goals by Brand and Heather Brostrom gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead after the first period. Gapinski and Bade assisted on Brand's goal at the 12:27 mark while Hannah Williams had an assist on Brostrom's goal at the 1:09 mark.

Gapinski set up Brand for a breakaway goal at the 9:35 mark of the second period as Park Rapids claimed a 3-0 lead.

The Panthers sealed the win by scoring three more times in the third period. Brand completed her hat trick at the 15:46 mark with another breakaway goal on an assist from Bade. Brand then assisted on goals by Williams with 11:30 to play and Gapinski with 6:28 left. Bade also had an assist on Gapinski's power-play goal.

Goalie Bailey Moore made 15 saves as the Panthers improved to 4-7-2.
