Panthers control Raiders

Kevin McMorrow's two first-period goals and Tucker Coborn's three first-period assists led the Park Rapids-Menahga boys hockey team to a 6-2 victory over Greenbush Tuesday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.

The Panthers jumped out to a 5-0 lead and controlled the game with a 36-12 advantage in shots in improving to 2-1 on the season.

Levi Erickson opened the scoring 1:10 into the game on an assist from Ian Johnson.

McMorrow then scored back-to-back goals as Dan Ricke tallied an assist at the 4:48 mark and Johnson and Coborn had assists on a power-play goal at the 7:00 mark.

Ricke and Coborn set up Jared Naeve at the 12:49 mark for a 4-0 lead before Sam Coborn scored a power-play goal at the 14:32 mark. Tucker Coborn and McMorrow had assists on that goal.

After a scoreless second period, Sam Coborn set up Johnson for the Panthers' final goal 2:25 into the third period.

Goalie Scott Smith earned his first varsity victory by stopping 10 shots.

The Panthers will complete a weekend series in St. Paul by playing St. Bernard's today (Saturday). Park Rapids hosts Detroit Lakes Tuesday night.
