Balanced attack sparks Panthers past Cass Lake

All 10 players contributed at the service line in leading the Park Rapids volleyball team to a 25-12, 25-13, 25-14 win over Cass Lake-Bena Thursday night at the Area High School gym.

Jenny Palm served three aces and 15 points and Hailey Lundin had seven ace serves and 13 points as the Panthers improved to 10-8 on the season.

A pair of kills by Megan Norby and four straight ace serves by Lundin gave the Panthers a quick 6-0 lead in Game 1. A kill by Olivia Vaadeland, an ace serve by Norby, four kills by Lundin and two kills by Hannah Wolff pushed the lead to 19-9. Lundin served three points before Vaadeland ended the game with a winning spike and a kill.

A spike by Leeza Tostenson, kills by Norby and Vaadeland, an ace serve by Shelby Weckwerth, and kills by Tostenson and Norby sparked Park Rapids to an 11-5 edge in Game 2. Palm served out the final eight points behind two kills by Norby and kills by Wolff and Lundin. A kill by Palm closed out Game 2.

A kill by Wolff and two ace serves by Lundin gave the Panthers a quick 4-0 lead in Game 3. A tip by Palm, a kill by Norby, a winning spike by Lundin, and an ace serve and kill by Norby extended the advantage to 16-7. Palm served two aces and kills by Lundin and Tostenson made it 21-10. A kill by Wolff and two service points by Brie Warne helped end the match.

Lundin led the way with nine kills while Norby had eight, Wolff had six, and Tostenson and Vaadeland had four each. Palm finished with 15 set assists while Norby had 15 digs. Lundin added 11 digs while Palm and Weckwerth had eight digs each.

Park Rapids will host Detroit Lakes in a key Mid-State Conference match Thursday night. The Panthers then enter the Nevis Invitational Saturday.
