Panthers rebound to sweep Wadena

Tucker Coborn and Kevin McMorrow pitched complete games in leading the Park Rapids baseball team to a Mid-State Conference doubleheader sweep against Wadena-Deer Creek at Wadena Tuesday.

Coborn scattered 14 hits and was supported by a 17-hit attack as the Panthers won the first game 13-5. McMorrow followed with a nine-hitter as Park Rapids completed the sweep with a 6-4 victory in the second game.

The Panthers scored five runs in both the third and fourth innings to spark the win in the first game.

McMorrow's grand-slam home run gave the Panthers a 5-2 lead in the third inning while back-to-back solo homers by Paul Dirks and Cody Schirmers to lead off the fourth extended the lead to 10-3. Two-out singles by McMorrow, Blake Olson, Cory Odland and Dirks capped off the fourth inning.

Singles by Schirmers, Coborn, Kevin Vaadeland and McMorrow led to the Panthers' final three runs in the seventh.

Schirmers went 3 for 5 with three runs, Coborn went 4 for 5, McMorrow went 3 for 5 and Olson went 3 for 4 to lead the Panthers' offense.

In the second game, a five-run fifth inning rallied the Panthers to the win.

W-DC led 3-0 before singles by Dan Ricke, Dan Pike, Schirmers and Dylan Walsh and a double by Vaadeland gave the Panthers a 5-3 lead.

Justin Peterson singled and scored an insurance run in the sixth as the Panthers improved to 6-6 in the conference and 6-10 overall.

W-DC fell to 3-6 in the conference and 3-8 overall.

"We played well," said Park Rapids head coach Jeremy Anderson. "That's the way we should be playing."
