Detroit Lakes sweeps Section 8AA golf titles

Detroit Lakes took the lead during Monday's first 18 holes and led the field again during Tuesday's final 18 holes to sweep the boys and girls team titles at the Section 8AA Golf Championships at the Bemidji Town and Country Club.

In the girls tournament, Detroit Lakes followed a 328 on Monday with a 323 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 651 to defeat Crookston by 20 shots. Park Rapids finished sixth with rounds of 373 and 365 for a 738.

Comprising Park Rapids' team score were Drew Hilmanowski with rounds of 89 and 90 for a 179, Sabela Valverde-Andrade with rounds of 96 and 89 for a 185, Madison Johnson with rounds of 93 and 95 for a 188, and Olivia Wallace with rounds of 97 and 91 for 188. Chloe Johnson added a 199 and Olivia McDonald had a 208.

Crookston's Ally Tiedemann and Detroit Lakes' Maddie Herzog shared medalist honors with 156s. United North Central's Hailey Usher followed a 95 with a 94 for a 189, Madi Womble followed a 96 with a 98 for a 194 and Toni Noland followed a 119 with a 126 for a 245.

In the boys meet, Detroit Lakes took control with a 305 on Monday and tied Fergus Falls' 314 on Tuesday to claim the team title with a 619. Fergus Falls was second with a 628.

Ben Unruh of Detroit Lakes earned medalist honors with a 146. United North Central's Luke Wurdock carded rounds of 82 and 89 for a 171 while Park Rapids' Tate Usher followed a 90 with an 82 for a 172. UNC's Mason Hotakeinen finished with rounds of 96 and 101 for a 197.
