Panthers, Tigers qualify for state track meet

Lydia Kantonen, Jaiden McCollum, Kamree Carlson and two relay teams will represent Park Rapids while Logan Tinnes and a relay team will represent Nevis at the state Class A track and field meet.

Kantonen won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:12.35 while McCollum took first in the shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 10 inches to lead the Park Rapids girls at Saturday's Section 8A meet at Bagley.

Also earning state berths for the Park Rapids girls were Hannah Morgan, Abby Eystad, Carlson and McCollum with a runner-up time of 1:50.71 in the 4 x 200 relay and Carlson with a runner-up throw of 36-3.75 in the shot put. East Grand Forks won the section title in the 4 x 200 relay in 1:50.20.

Qualifying for state for the Park Rapids boys was the 4 x 800 relay team of Matt Benson, Jack Christeson, Seth Breitweser and Adam Jacobi with a runner-up time of 8:34.10. Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton was first in 8:28.70.

Pelican Rapiids (82.50 points) edged the Panthers (82 points) for the girls title while D-G-F won the boys title with 126.50 points with Park Rapids finishing 10th with 26 points.

Logan Tinnes qualified for state as the section runner-up in the 110 hurdles with a state-qualifying time of 15.37 while Nevis' 4 x 100 relay team advanced with a runner-up time of 46.08. Ada-Borup's Luke Heitman won the section title in the 110 hurdles in 15.21 while Pelican Rapids won the section title in the 4 x 100 relay in 45.83.

Nevis finished 11th in the boys meet with 25 points and 18th in the girls standings with 10 points.

The state Class A meet will be held Friday and Saturday at Hamline University in St. Paul.
