Golfers get tune-up for 8AA North meet

Both the Park Rapids and United North Central golf teams received a chance to prepare for the Section 8AA North tournament by playing in Tuesday's Pre-Section 8AA meet at Thief River Falls.

Sabela Valverde-Andrade carded an 84 for runner-up honors in leading Park Rapids to runner-up honors in the girls meet. Drew Hilmanowski's 89, Chloe Johnson's 94 and Madison Johnson's 95 rounded out the Panthers' 362 team score.

United North Central took fourth in this eight-team meet with a 390 behind Hailey Usher's 90, Madi Womble's 96, Anna Huttunen's 100 and Toni Noland's 104.

Crookston, led by medalist Ally Tiedemann's 75, led the field with a 355.

Crookston also won the boys meet with a 319 while East Grand Forks' Nate Deziel claimed medalist honors with a 74.

Leading Park Rapids to fifth place with a 356 were Bjorn Jorgenson with an 80, Tate Usher with an 88, Justin Dravis with a 91, and Cody Dravis and Luke Kosel with 97s..

United North Central took seventh in the eight-team field with a 372 with Luke Wurdock's 87, a pair of 93s by Anthony Wurdock and Mason Hotakeinen, and a 99 by Bobby Pieilta leading the way.

Thief River Falls will host the Section 8AA North meet Tuesday. The top three teams and top six individuals not on those three teams will advance to the Section 8AA tournament at Bemidji June 5-6.

Patriots claim title at Blueberry Pines

Alex Stone carded a 4-over par 76 to earn medalist honors in leading Pequot Lakes to a 364 and the team title at Monday's United North Central Invitational at Blueberry Pines.

The host Warriors earned runner-up honors with a 415 as Womble's 97, Usher's 101, Noland's 105 and Huttunen's 112 led the way.

Park Rapids finished third with a 438 behind Jasmine Cease's 101, Amber Schroeder's 104, Olivia Ulvin's 115 and Paige Leeseberg's 118.

Maddy Mitchell carded a 97 and Kaylee Halik had a 107 for Nevis.
