Panthers blank Flyers, avenge loss to Bearcats
The Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team closed out its home schedule with a big 3-2 win over Kittson Central Saturday afternoon at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.
That win followed a 9-0 victory over Bagley/Fosston Thursday night at Walker as the Panthers improved to 7-4-2 against Section 8A teams and 16-5-3 overall.
Panthers rout Bagley/Fosston
A six-goal first period sparked the Panthers in a dominating performance against Bagley/Fosston.
Park Rapids set the tone by outshooting the Flyers 31-0 in the first period and 23-1 in the second period to finish with a 68-3 advantage in shots on goal for the game.
Noah MacPherson and Connor Kennedy had two goals and three assists each as 12 different players tallied a point.
Luke Jaeger opened the scoring 4:08 into the game on assists from MacPherson and Kennedy. Kennedy set up MacPherson at the 6:47 mark, Bailey Mueller assisted on a goal by Matt DeLaHunt at the 8:00 mark, Kennedy scored on assists from MacPherson and Jamie Stewart at the 8:50 mark, Kiefer Miller and Drew Bade set up Chase Brand at the 9:38 mark, and Raul Garcia scored a power-play goal at the 14:12 mark on assists from Stewart and Craig Walters.
Power-play goals by Kennedy and MacPherson pushed the lead to 8-0 after the second period. Zach Hagen and MacPherson assisted on Kennedy’s goal at the 3:45 mark while Hagen and Kennedy had assists on MacPherson’s goal at the 7:42 mark.
Brand and Bade had assists as Mueller concluded the scoring at the 4:50 mark of the third period.
Goalie Cody Brumbaugh faced his lowest number of shots this season in recording his fifth shutout of the year. The Panthers shut out Bagley/Fosston 14-0 earlier in the season.
Bagley/Fosston fell to 0-8 in section games and 2-18 overall.

Panthers avenge loss to Kittson
MacPherson’s goal midway through the third period lifted the Panthers past Kittson Central.
Billy Thorstenson’s goal at the 5:46 mark of the first period gave Kittson Central a 1-0 lead.
Ryan DeLaHunt scored at the 2:20 mark of the second period to tie the game. Bade and Brand had assists on that goal. Dalton Klegstad scored at the 11:10 mark as Kittson Central carried a 2-1 lead into the third period.
Stewart and Brand assisted on a power-play goal by Kennedy at the 5:53 mark to tie the game before Jaeger set up MacPherson for the game-winner at the 9:36 mark.
Brumbaugh made 26 saves as the Panthers held a 35-28 advantage in shots.
Kittson Central, which defeated the Panthers 5-3 a week ago, fell to 7-5-1 against section teams and 15-5-2 overall.
