Panthers shut out Eveleth-Gilbert

Park Rapids’ Lauren Naeve (16) kept the puck away from Eveleth-Gilbert’s Adriana Woitolla during Saturday afternoon’s game at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena. The Panthers outshot Eveleth-Gilbert 46-15 in a 2-0 win.

  Shania Johnson recorded her fifth shutout of the season as the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team skated to a 2-0 win over Eveleth-Gilbert Saturday afternoon at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.

     Mady Vaudrin opened the scoring at the 14:16 mark of the first period with assists going to Alex Pederson and Julia Renner.

     After a scoreless second period, Christina Smith added an insurance goal at the 7:19 mark of the third period. Bailee Jerger and Brooke Jerger had assists on that goal.

     Johnson stopped all 15 shots she faced as the Panthers held a 46-15 advantage in shots on goal. Park Rapids edged E-G 2-1 earlier in the season.

     The win lifted the Panthers to 9-12-1 on the season while Eveleth-Gilbert fell to 5-16-2.
