Panthers shut out W-DC, settle for scoreless tie with Red Lake Falls

     After a dominating win over Wadena-Deer Creek Friday night, the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team suffered a disappointing scoreless tie with Red Lake Falls Saturday afternoon.

     Chase Brand’s hat trick and Noah MacPherson’s three assists led the Panthers to a 43-12 advantage in shots on goal in an 8-0 Mid-State Conference win at Wadena Friday night.

     The Panthers followed with a 55-11 advantage in shots on goal Saturday at Walker, but Red Lake Falls goalie Wyatt Casavan stopped all 55 shots in a 0-0 tie in a Section 8A defensive battle.

     Those two games left the Panthers with a 4-0 record in conference play, a 3-2-2 record against section teams and a 9-3-2 overall record.

Panthers dominate Wolverines

     A five-goal first period powered the Panthers past W-DC.

     MacPherson and Kiefer Miller set up a power-play goal by Brand 2:57 into the game, Drew Bade assisted on a goal by Luke Jaeger at the 4:39 mark, and MacPherson assisted on back-to-back goals by Brand at the 5:14 and 8:28 marks before scoring on the power play at the 15:19 mark as the Panthers jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Matt DeLaHunt received an assist on Brand’s third goal while Ryan DeLaHunt received an assist on MacPherson’s goal. Park Rapids held a 17-2 advantage in shots in the opening period.

     Brand set up Matt DeLaHunt at the 9:46 mark of the second period as the Panthers claimed a 6-0 lead. The Panthers held a 16-5 edge in shots in the second period.

     Bade concluded the scoring with goals at the 3:26 and 11:43 marks of the third period. Ryan DeLaHunt and Jaeger had assists on a power-play goal by Bade while Jaeger and Connor Kennedy set up Bade’s second goal.

     Goalie Cody Brumbaugh stopped all 12 shots he faced as W-DC fell to 0-5 in conference games and 3-12 overall.

Casavan saves tie for RLF

     Casavan stopped 17 shots in the first period, 18 shots in the second period, 11 shots in the third period and nine shots in overtime to give Red Lake Falls a tie.

     Brumbaugh stopped all 11 shots he faced for his fourth shutout of the season.

     The tie gave RLF a 1-3-2 record against section teams and a 3-2-2 overall record.
