Panthers fall to TRF 3-1 in section game

     Thief River Falls used a 43-18 advantage in shots to defeat the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team 3-1 in a battle of Section 8A rivals Tuesday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.

     The Prowlers claimed a 3-0 lead behind Isak Bergland’s goal in the first period, Ian Lund’s power-play goal in the second period and Zeb Nelson’s goal in the third period.

     Park Rapids, which was outshot 27-11 in the first two periods, avoided a shutout when Jamie Stewart scored on a power play with 2:26 to play.

     Goalie Cody Brumbaugh made 40 saves for the Panthers, who fell to 3-2-1 against section teams and 8-3-1 overall. The Panthers were rated No. 25 in this week’s state Class A poll.

     The Prowlers, who were rated No. 10 in this week’s Class A poll, improved to 3-1 against section teams and 9-5 overall with their sixth straight win.
