Pederson keys Panthers' win over Mandan

  Alex Pederson’s four goals and two assists helped the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team rebound from a 7-0 loss to West Fargo for a 6-0 win over Mandan at the Crookston Holiday Tournament on Dec. 26-27.

     The Panthers enter 2014 with a 6-9-1 overall record.

West Fargo shuts out Panthers

     Alli Springer’s hat trick led West Fargo to a 7-0 win in the tournament opener on Dec. 26.

     Kelly Krahn added two goals and two assists as West Fargo held a 42-10 advantage in shots on goal as the Packers improved to 6-1.

     Goalie Morgan Sterling made 10 saves as the Panthers were shut out for the sixth time this season. Park Rapids goalie Shania Johnson finished with 35 saves.

Panthers shut out Mandan

     Johnson’s 28 saves led the Panthers to their fourth shutout victory of the season in the win over Mandan on Dec. 27.

     Pederson and Mady Vaudrin set up Josie Umthun at the 3:46 mark of the first period while Emma Gribbin and Vaudrin assisted on Pederson’s first goal of the game at the 8:06 mark to give Park Rapids a 2-0 lead.

     Taylor Sagen assisted on a goal by Pederson at the 2:34 mark while Lexi Hinkley-Smith scored on an assist from Pederson at the 13:52 mark to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead after the second period.

     Pederson completed her hat trick with a shorthanded goal at the 9:31 mark of the third period before concluding the scoring at the 16:37 mark. Hinkley-Smith had an assist on the final goal.

     The Panthers held a 33-28 advantage in shots as Mandan fell to 4-5 on the season.
