Panthers rally for 3-3 tie against Pirates

     Noah MacPherson’s power-play goal with 1:50 to play in regulation gave the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team a 3-3 tie at Crookston Tuesday night.

     Doug Larson’s first-period goal and a pair of goals by Brady Heppner gave Crookston a 3-0 lead early in the second period before the Panthers rallied for a tie in this battle of Section 8A rivals.

     MacPherson scored at the 10:04 mark as the Panthers cut the gap to 3-1 entering the final period. Chase Brand and Dylan Weaver assisted on that goal.

     Weaver and Kiefer Miller set up a goal by Brand at the 7:25 mark of the third period before MacPherson tied the game 10 seconds into a power play. Brand and Miller assisted on that goal.

     Park Rapids goalie Cody Brumbaugh made seven saves in overtime to preserve the tie.

     Brumbaugh finished with 44 saves as Crookston held a 47-23 advantage in shots on goal. Park Rapids is now 3-1-1 in section play and 4-1-1 overall and Crookston is 1-1-1 in section games and 3-4-2 overall.
