EGF skates to 5-1 win over Panthers

     A four-goal second period powered East Grand Forks to a 5-1 win over the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team Saturday afternoon.

     After a scoreless first period in which EGF held a 13-0 advantage in shots on goal, goals by Tiffany Hanson and Collete Piche gave the Green Wave a 2-0 lead before Riley Koberinski scored twice in the final 4:38 to give EGF a 4-0 advantage. EGF held a 24-6 advantage in shots in that period.

     Hanson scored again as EGF claimed a 5-0 lead before Bailee Jerger’s power-play goal late in the third period concluded the scoring. Christina Smith had an assist on Park Rapids’ only goal.

     The win lifted EGF to 2-1 against Section 8A teams and 11-1 overall. The Green Wave is rated No. 4 in this week’s state Class A poll.

     Goalie Shania Johnson made 42 saves as the Panthers fell to 0-4-1 against section teams and 4-7-1 overall.
