Panthers hold off Lakers' rally

     A three-goal second period lifted the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team to a 4-3 win over Detroit Lakes Tuesday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.

     Detroit Lakes took a 2-1 lead after the first period on a pair of goals by Jon Richards. Connor Kennedy scored on the power play at the 4:13 mark for the Panthers.

     Two quick goals at the start of the second period gave the Panthers the lead. Luke Jaeger tied the game 41 seconds into the period on assists from Drew Bade and Kennedy. Kennedy and Jaeger set up a slap shot by Bailey Mueller as the Panthers took a 3-2 lead at the 3:13 mark. Kiefer Miller assisted on a goal by Kennedy at the 16:02 mark as the Panthers carried a 4-2 lead into the final period.

     Ryan Deconcini’s power-play goal at the 9:16 mark cut the gap to 4-3, but Park Rapids goalie Cody Brumbaugh made 18 saves in the third period to preserve the win.

     Brumbaugh finished with 38 saves as the Panthers improved to 2-1 against Section 8A opponents. Detroit Lakes fell to 0-2 in section play and 1-4-1 overall despite holding a 41-26 advantage in shots.

Pritchett scored twice at Bagley

     Lucas Pritchett scored his first two varsity goals to cap off the Panthers’ 14-0 win over Bagley/Fosston last Friday night.

     Cody Koebernick was originally credited with the game’s final two goals. Craig Walters and Chase Brand also scored goals which were originally credited to Raul Garcia and Jamie Stewart.
