EGF shuts out Panthers in opener

  East Grand Forks solidified its claim as being the team to beat in Section 8A this season by blanking the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team 5-0 in the season opener last Tuesday night.

     EGF, which is rated No. 3 in the state Class A poll behind Hermantown and Breck, held a 51-5 advantage in shots on goal en route to the win.

     Goals by Grant Loven and Cale Mack gave the Green Wave a 2-0 lead after the first period as EGF held a 13-1 advantage in shots.

     Tanner Tweten scored the lone goal in the second period as EGF held a 21-3 advantage in shots.

     EGF closed the third period with a 17-1 advantage in shots as goals by Zane Hemsing and Braden Shea concluded the scoring.

     Park Rapids goalie Cody Brumbaugh made 46 saves while EGF goalie Garrett Lieberg faced only five shots.
