Through the cooperative efforts of several local agencies, the Paul Bunyan Archery Club recently unveiled the addition of new upgrades to their indoor archery shooting range in Akeley.

The club started about seven years ago to provide an indoor activity in Akeley during winter months. The facilities have seen several improvements over the years and are now located in the southwest part of the Akeley Regional Community Center (ARCC).

“Different games appeal to a wide range of people,” said club treasurer Calub Shavlik.

Tyler Price has enjoyed being able to use the archery range to keep up with his skills during the hunting off-season.

Club secretary Dean Andress stresses that people don’t have to be hunters to have fun shooting.

The club recently purchased and installed advanced target-backing materials with funding received under the Itasca-Mantrap Electric Cooperative Round-Up grant program. The ARCC also helped with improvements as part of overall remodeling of the facility.

A security camera and lights have been added outside the archery facility, along with keycard access for the door.

The Paul Bunyan Archery Club offers membership throughout local communities to individuals, families, youths and groups interested in year-round archery activities.
