2nd annual Jakes Day is Aug. 11

The 2nd annual Northland Jakes Event has been set for Saturday, Aug. 11 at Camp Wilderness.

It is a hunter safety awareness program combined with a course enabling youth to appreciate turkey and deer hunting.

All future sportspersons from 9 to 17 are welcome to attend with their parents. Participants will receive practical instruction with archery, muzzeloaders, rifles and shotguns.

Further coaching will be provided on identifying legal animals, recognition of safe shots, tracking wounded game, tree-stand safety, turkey hunting strategies, and white-tail hunting strategies. As of now the New NWTF Jakes Take Aim Trailer will be on site for the Jakes to have some shooting fun.

Registration will be from 8-9 a.m. with the hands on staff starting shortly thereafter. Lunch will be served at Noon, and all door prizes will be presented during the meal.

The North Central Gobblers partnering up with the Tall Pine Toms and Camp Wilderness Boy Scout Camp. The event is also being sponsored by the Park Rapids Chapter of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, Wild Country Taxidermy (Terry Mitchell), Richard Martin (NWTF Akeley Chapter president), Reeds Sports Center, Smokey Hills Outdoor Sports, Gander Mountain, Johnson on the Water, Delaney's Sports Center, L & M Fleet, Walmart of Park Rapids, Park Rapids Enterpise and Outdoor News.
