Prowlers prevail with 5-1 victory over Panthers


Brett Pinoniemi scored early in the first period, but the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team managed only six more shots on goal the rest of the game as Thief River Falls posted a 5-1 Section 8A victory Tuesday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.
Pinoniemi gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead with a goal 4:34 into the game before Thief River Falls tied it at 1-1 on Brady Anderson's goal at the 14:27 mark. The Prowlers finished with a 10-2 edge in shots in the opening period.
Anderson scored at the 11:43 mark and Aaron Myers followed with a goal at the 14:33 mark as the Prowlers used a 15-2 advantage in shots to build a 3-1 lead.
After Myers scored at the 5:21 mark of the third period, Anderson completed his hat trick with a goal into an open net with 3:04 to play. Thief River Falls had an 11-3 edge in shots in the final period.
Goalie Austin Jerger made 31 saves as the Panthers fell to 1-6-1 in section play and 3-10-1 overall. Thief River Falls improved to 1-2 against section opponents and 5-7-2 overall. Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play.
