UNC's Aho, Clements just miss qualifying for state
United North Central's Annika Aho and Jake Clements just missed qualifying for the state Class A track and field meet with third-place finishes at Thursday's Section 6A meet at Fergus Falls.
Aho clocked a 5:24.68 in the 800-meter run to finish behind the 5:13.89 by Perham's Brynnan Covington and the 5:21.45 by Morris Area's Maddie Carrington. Aho also placed sixth in the 800 in 2:27.13 to account for 7 of the Warriors' 8 team points. Anna Olson scored the other point by clearing 8 feet, 4 inches to place sixth in the pole vault.
Clement cleared 12-6 in the pole vault to trail only Staples-Motley's Max Giza (13-6) and Pequot Lakes' Addisoune Harrington (13 feet). Clement scored all 6 of UNC's points in the boys meet.
Also competing for the Warriors were Kaylee Eckman (tied for seventh in the high jump at 4-8, 14th in the 100 hurdles in 18.73 and 15th in the 300 hurdles in 53.07) and Annie Lake (tied for eighth in the pole vault at 8-4).
