Verndale extends lead in conference standings

Nathan Sabinash's 20 points and 14 rebounds and Mac Schluttner's 10 points and 11 rebounds led Verndale to a 65-40 Park Region Conference win over the Menahga boys basketball team Friday night at Menahga.

Kyle Schmitz added 11 points as Verndale extended its conference-leading record to 8-1. The Pirates are 12-5 overall.

Kirby Hrdlicka scored 16 points for the Braves, who fell to 5-4 in conference games and 9-9 overall.

Following Verndale in the conference standings are Pillager and Sebeka at 6-3. Wadena-Deer Creek joins Menahga at 5-4 while New York Mills is 4-5. Bertha-Hewitt (2-7) and Henning (0-9) round out the conference standings.

Menahga was coming off a 75-28 loss to Browerville/Eagle Valley on Jan. 30. The win lifted BEV to 12-3 on the season.
