Braves take over first place in conference

Megan Hendrickson led five players in double figures as the Menahga girls basketball team took over sole possession of first place in the Park Region Conference standings with a 75-66 win over New York Mills Tuesday night at Menahga.

Hendrickson had a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds while adding four steals while Alyssa Peterson scored 15 points. Aimee Lake finished with 14 points and five assists, Lindsay Hendrickson had 12 points and eight rebounds, and Cierra Ahlf scored 12 points as the Braves improved to 8-2 in the conference and 15-4 overall.

New York Mills, which defeated the Braves 73-50 on Dec. 15, fell to 7-3 in the conference and 15-5 overall.

"We have been working hard and the girls have been playing some good basketball," said Menahga head coach Cody Pulju, whose team is 9-1 in the last 10 games. "We have been moving the ball well on offense and we are finally getting healthy again. The girls have been focused and determined to get better every single day and it's fun to see so much improvement and their hard work starting to pay off."

Menahga set up a battle with NYM for the top spot in the conference with a 70-22 win over Bertha-Hewitt at Bertha on Jan. 26. Peterson (17), Lindsay Hendrickson (12), Megan Hendrickson (12), Tara Hendrickson (9), Ahlf (6), Alayna Lake (5), Annika Aho (3), Martha Peterson (3) and Leah Schwartz (3) led Menahga in scoring in that game as B-H fell to 0-10 in the conference and 2-14 overall.
