Warriors look to continue improvement on course

     Tim Wurdock is counting on the United North Central boys and girls golf teams to continue showing improvement this spring.

     Looking to lead the boys team this season are seniors Noah Hendrickson and Don Wurdock and freshmen Luke Wurdock and Gavin Mickelson. Luke Wurdock led the Warriors with a 41.5 nine-hole average and carded an 85 at the North Section 8AA meet. Mickelson tallied a 43.0 average last season. Hendrickson had a 44.8 average last season and carded a 93 at the subsection meet. Don Wurdock finished with a 45.0 average and carded a 94 at the subsection meet. UNC finished eighth at the subsection meet with a 361.

     Competing for starting spots and providing depth will be senior Tom Johnson, juniors Brian Hillukka and Calvin Taylor, sophomore Edwin Eix, freshman Vaughn Massie and eighth grader Anthony Wurdock.

     “I hope the boys continue to improve,” said Tim Wurdock, who will be assisted by Dale Captain, Justin Day and Taylor Schroeder. “The top four played a lot last summer. I really hope we finish in the top half of our conference.”

     For the girls, only sophomore Laura Niska returns from last year’s varsity squad. Niska compiled a 47.3 average and capped off the season by carding a 105 at the subsection meet.

     Looking to compete for varsity spots will be junior Sarah Kuismi and freshmen Hailey Usher, Haley Craig and Anna Huttunen.
