Kramer sparks Tigers to win over Verndale
Caden Kramer hit back-to-back 3-pointers to spark a 26-2 run to end the first half as the Nevis boys basketball team defeated Verndale 55-39 Tuesday night at the Tiger Arena.
Verndale led 12-5 in the early going before the Tigers took control, claiming a 31-14 lead at the break. Nevis played the Pirates even in the second half.
Kramer finished with 12 points while Michael Landquist added 11 points, six rebounds and two assists. Tom Wormley also hit double figures with 10 points while grabbing four rebounds. Zach Henry (7) and Jack Landquist (7) combined for 14 points with Henry tallying three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Luke DeWulf led the Tigers with three assists.
Nevis improved to 7-0 against Section 5A opponents and 11-1 overall.
Owen Korfe scored 16 points to lead the Pirates, who fell to 2-3 in section play and 4-7 overall.
"We got off to a slow start after turning the ball over a few times, but we got things figured out and went on a 26-2 run to end the half," said Nevis head coach Scott Kramer. "I thought we were flat in the second half and were not able to put the game away like I thought we should have, but it was a good section win nonetheless."
Nevis fell a spot in this week's state Class A poll, dropping from No. 3 to No. 4 behind No. 1 North Woods, No. 2 Springfield and No. 3 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton.
