Menahga girls move up in state rankings

A convincing 79-39 Park Region Conference win at Pillager Tuesday night helped the Menahga girls basketball team move up in this week's state Class A poll.

Alyssa Peterson scored 25 points, Megan Hendrickson had a double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds, and Cierra Ahlf chipped in 17 points as the Braves improved to 7-0 in the conference and 12-0 overall. Ahlf hauled down eight rebounds and joined Martha Peterson with four assists while Peterson led the Braves with six steals. Ahlf had four steals and Tara Hendrickson blocked two shots for Menahga, which led 50-24 at the half.

Jordyn Vanvickle scored 12 points and Maggie Schmit added 10 points for the Huskies, who fell to 1-6 in the conference and 5-10 overall.

Lyle-Pacelli (13-1), Mountain Iron-Buhl (15-1), Hayfield (12-4), Goodhue (12-2) and Ada-Borup/Norman County West (10-1) top the state rankings. Menahga is the only undefeated team among Class A teams.
