Ava Isaacson's 14 points and 11 rebounds helped the Nevis girls basketball team snap a nine-game losing streak with a 52-50 Northwoods Conference win against Cass Lake-Bena Thursday night at the Tiger Arena.

Kia Heide added 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists while Katie Kamphaus had 13 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots for the Tigers, who led 32-26 at the half. Ashley Pyburn chipped in 12 rebounds and eight steals as Nevis improved to 3-5 in the conference. The Tigers prevailed despite missing 19 of 30 free throws and turning the ball over 31 times.

Cass Lake-Bena fell to 3-4 in conference games and 4-12 overall.

"It felt nice to get back into the win column. Overall, I thought we played pretty well. We did a nice job of getting to the basket and the free-throw line. We played tough defense and rebounded well," said Nevis head coach Bradley Neyens. "It was nice to see us finish a game. We have been in a few close games and have come up short, but our girls battled and came out on top. I'm proud of the effort they gave. If we can clean up the turnovers and give an effort like this for the rest of the season, we will surprise some teams."
