Panthers defeat Braves for third place

Gabe Bagstad hit three 3-pointers to spark a 15-4 run to start the game and hit another 3-pointer to cap a 22-8 run to open the second half in leading the Park Rapids boys basketball team to a 62-37 win over Menahga in Thursday afternoon's third-place game of the Park Rapids Holiday Tournament.

A layup by Jeff Haas and a basket off a rebound by Jake Reish helped give the Panthers a 15-4 lead with 11:09 to play in the first half. After a 3-pointer by Charlie Hodge, a three-point play by Tristan Aho and a layup by Zach Floyd cut the deficit to 15-12 at the 9:26 mark, a three-point play by Bagstad, a 3-pointer by Tristin Persons and a 3-pointer by Bagstad pushed the Panthers' lead to 29-13 at the 3:20 mark. Park Rapids led 31-20 at the half.

Layups by Jeff Haas, Jason Haas, Persons and Bagstad made it 39-20 with 14:16 to play before layups by Jason Haas, Persons and Blake Johnson and 3-pointers by Johnson and Bagstad provided a 52-28 advantage with 7:15 remaining. After Gavin Hillukka hit back-to-back 3-pointers for the Braves, 3-pointers by Bagstad and Luke Kosel and layups by Reish and Rylley Clark ended the scoring.

Bagstad's 23 points and Person's 13 points led the Panthers while Aho scored 12 points to lead Menahga.
