Panthers, Braves to play for third place

Tristin Persons drove in for a layup during Park Rapids' game against Mahnomen-Waubun Wednesday night at the Area High School gym.

Cass Lake-Bena and Mahnomen-Waubun prevailed in Wednesday's semifinals and will play for the title of the Park Rapids Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament.

Cass Lake led 49-25 at the half in an 88-59 victory over Menahga while Cass Lake-Bena followed a 24-8 run with a game-ending 10-1 run for a 57-42 victory over Park Rapids.

Noah DeLapaz and Arnold Kingbird scored 17 points apiece while Michael Reyes added 15 points to lead Cass Lake-Bena. Ethan Brown (11) and Jarell Jacobs (10) also hit double figures for the Panthers. Charlie Hodge scored 21 points and Zach Floyd added 10 points for Menahga.

Dion Bower and Jon Starkey scored 16 points each and Treston Spalla added 12 points to lead Mahnomen-Waubun past Park Rapids. Gabe Bagstad scored 12 points while Jason Haas and Tristin Persons combined for 18 points for the host Panthers.

Park Rapids and Menahga will play Thursday afternoon at 3 in the third-place game while Cass Lake-Bena and Mahnomen-Waubun will play in the championship game at 4:30.
